About the Project:
Faith in the Five Boroughs documents the role that faith and religious communities play in the lives of immigrants and their children in New York.
This site was developed over 30 hours at a 2013 hackathon sponsored by the Public Broadcasting Systems (PBS) critically acclaimed documentary series POV. Assigned to documentary filmmakers from the documentary company 590 Films, and a programmer, we used the APIs from Twitter, Flickr and geolocation of the documentary videos.
What we hacked together:
- jQuery to traverse the HTML Document, handle events, and make AJAX requests.
- Google Maps API to display a map of NYC and place geo-tagged images.
- Flickr API to acquire crowd sourced images based on specific tags.
- Google Places API to acquire community identified religious places.
- Twitter API to acquire crowd sourced tweets based on specific tags.
